
Giraldo Finishes Sixth at Kiawah Island

FINAL RESULTS
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Sophomore Valentina Giraldo claimed a 7th-place finish to lead the Jacksonville State women's golf team at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic on Tuesday.
Giraldo, a native of Ibague, Colombia, turned in a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's final round on the par-72, 5,964-yard Osprey Point Golf Club. She wrapped up a three-day score of 214 and climbed one spot from Monday's second round into seventh.
College of Charleston's Laura Fuenfstueck won the 232-player event with an 8-under 208 that saw her card three rounds under par. Coastal Carolina won the 43-team event with a 67-over 870, one shot better than College of Charleston in second. The Gamecocks finished 19th after their best score of the tournament, a final-round 293.
Giraldo rallied after a slow start to play her final 13 holes at 3-under par. She made birdie on all but one par five on Tuesday, capping a tournament that saw her play the par 5s at 5-under.
Freshman Pia Ohlenbusch and senior Angie Varona each shot 73 on Tuesday for JSU. Ohlenbusch put the finishing touches on a228 that tied her for 66th, while Varona tied for 95th with a 231.
Sophomore Paula Vega used a final-round 76, to cap a 238 and tied for 145th, while freshman Layne Dyar's third 80 in as many days tied her for 160th.
JSU's next wevent will be the Western Kentucky Spring Break Shootout at Lake Jovita Golf Course in Dade City, Fla. The event starts March 13.
