MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team stretched its undefeated streak to 6-0 with a 4-3 win over Alabama State Saturday.

The Gamecocks (6-0) edged out the Hornets (1-7) at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center to advance its streak to one win shy of last season's 7-0 start.

"I am really happy with how our team played today," head coach
Andres Amores said. "It was a tough match, but our girls battled until the end and found a way to win."

JSU claimed the doubles point to begin the day, led by
Malin Buechner and
Alba Conejero. The duo remained undefeated in doubles play with a 6-3 win, improving to 3-0 at No. 1.

Jacksonville State and ASU split singles action. After dropping the first singles matchup of the day, Buechner,
Elena Tendero and Conejero reeled off three consecutive victories to secure the match.

Buechner earned a two-set win over Gabriela Lackova at No. 3, Tendero won 6-2 in both sets over Maria Popova and Conejero won a three-set thriller that ended with a 7-5 set victory to give the Gamecocks the one-point advantage.

The Gamecocks are back in action Wednesday against UNA at noon at the JSU Tennsi Courts.
