JACKSONVILLE – The final home game of the season for the Jacksonville State women's basketball team will take place on Saturday as the Gamecocks welcome Eastern Kentucky to Pete Mathews Coliseum for a 2 p.m. tip time.Â
Â
Following a wild second-half on Thursday that saw Jax State outscore Morehead State, 35-13, in the final 15 minutes of game time to win its second-straight conference game, JSU now looks for its first three-game win streak since mid-December. The MSU win evened the Gamecocks' season record at 13-13 and improved JSU to 7-8 in OVC play and into a four-way tie for sixth. The Colonels (2-24, 0-15 OVC) bring an underwhelming record into Saturday's contest, but can't be overlooked with JSU needing every victory to secure its spot in the OVC tournament.
Â
Prior to the 2 p.m. tip-off, the Gamecocks will honor their two departing seniors in a special pregame ceremony on the court. Seniors Rayven Pearson and Brianna Perry with don the Gamecock uniforms one final time at The Pete, before heading off to Eastern Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville for the final regular-season weekend.
Â
Perry, a 5-foot-3 guard from Mesquite, Texas, spent two years at Jacksonville College in Texas before transferring to JSU in 2017. In her second season with the Red and White, she's played in all 26 games, averaging 14 minutes per contest as the reserve ball controller. Her three-pointer early in the fourth quarter against MSU on Thursday gave JSU its first lead since early in the second and helped propel the Gamecocks to a big win. She reached a career mark with 14 points against Troy earlier this year, and matched her career best with three treys against Harvard during the Thanksgiving tournament in California.
Â
Meanwhile, four-year Gamecock Rayven Pearson will also see her final game in the coliseum on Saturday as the Hazel Green, Ala., product departs with her name through JSU's record book. She's climbed to fourth on the school's all-time career rebounding list this season, and reached 800 career boards against MSU on Thursday. The low post threat has been a staple in the Gamecock starting lineup for years and has 21 career double-doubles and 34 games with double-digit rebounds.
Â
Coverage begins at 2 p.m. on ESPN+ and "The Voice", Mike Parris, will provide the radio call on the Gamecock Sports Network. Live stats are also available on JSUGamecockSports.com.
