
Rifle Dominates The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the weekend with a dominating performance on Sunday against The Citadel to top the Bulldogs in both matches in Charleston, South Carolina.
After posting a 4621 on Friday, JSU added two more points on the final ledger with a 4623 on Sunday. The Gamecocks tallied a 2333 in air rifle and a 2290 in smallbore. The 2333 mark was the best for Jax State in air rifle this season. The Citadel finished with a 2229 in air rifle and a 2113 in smallbore.
The Gamecocks were led by junior Michael Dietz as he combined to fire an 1166. The Peralta, New Mexico native carded a 585 in air rifle and registered the best score of the day in smallbore with a 581. Junior Mackenzie Van Patten, who paced JSU on Friday, finished three marks back of Dietz with a total of 1162. She was the best shooter of the day in air rifle with a 589 and added a 573 in smallbore.
Junior Owen Goad and freshman Lars Lilleng shared the same final score with both recording an 1148. Goad was third in smallbore with a 580, while finishing the day with a 568 in smallbore. Lilleng had a 579 in air rifle and a 568 in smallbore. Senior Sam Payne rounded out the team score with an 1146 after a 578 in air rifle and a 568 in smallbore.
JSU will face Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State next weekend in Morehead, Kentucky.
