
Jax State Rifle Tops The Citadel & UAB

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team turned in another solid performance on Saturday against The Citadel and in-state rival UAB at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
The Gamecocks accumulated a 4643, which was 67 and 82 points better than the Bulldogs and Blazers respectively. JSU opened the match with a 2311 in smallbore and added a 2332 in air rifle. The Citadel finished the day with a 4576, while UAB posted a 4561.
Jax State Juniors Owen Goad and Mackenzie Van Patten shared the top spot in the individual standings with an aggregate score of 1166. Goad claimed medalist honors in smallbore with a 582, while Van Patten was the top shooter in air rifle with a 591. Goad added a 582 in air rifle to complete his Saturday action. Van Patten recorded a 575 in smallbore to finish third in that portion of the match.
Freshman Kim Jettenberg bolstered JSU's smallbore mark with a 580 along with junior Michael Dietz's 574 in smallbore. Dietz finished third overall after registering a 582 in air rifle. Senior Sam Payne rounded out the Gamecock scoring with an 1143 total after carding a 573 in air rifle and a 570 in smallbore.
JSU will wrap up the 2020 portion of the schedule on Sunday, hosting Murray State at the Gamecock Rifle Range. Live results will be available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
