
Gamecocks Wrap Up 2020 Slate With Momentum for 2021

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the 2020 portion of the schedule with momentum after facing Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State on Sunday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
The Racers finished with a 4673 after recording a 2320 in smallbore and a 2353 in air rifle. JSU, facing the Racers for the second time this season, trimmed the deficit by 60 points from the previous outing between the two squads. The Gamecocks posted an aggregate score of 4644 after tallying a 2306 in smallbore and a 2338 in air rifle.
Junior Mackenzie Van Patten claimed second place in the individual standings with a final mark of 1166. Van Patten fired a 593 in air rifle and a 573 in smallbore. A trio of Jax State shooters rounded out the top-10 with junior Michael Dietz, Senior Sam Payne and junior Owen Goad. Dietz recorded an 1162, while Payne carded an 1156. Goad collected an 1152 to wrap up the semester. Payne's day was highlighted by JSU's best smallbore mark of 580, which is also a season-best for Payne.
The Gamecocks will be idle until January 23 when they travel to face the Racers in Murray, Kentucky.
