Rifle Starts 2021 With Solid Showing at Withrow Invite

MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State rifle team returned to action for the first time since November and turned in its second-best aggregate mark of the season at the Withrow Invitational, hosted by Murray State.
The Gamecocks fired a final score of 4655, which is second to the best mark of the season. Jax State turned in a season-best 4659 on November 14 against UT Martin at the Gamecock Rifle Range. JSU finished with a 2336 in air rifle and a 2319 in smallbore.
Junior Mackenzie Van Patten led JSU with a final tally of 1167 after registering a 588 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore. Junior Owen Goad recorded an 1162 overall with a 584 in air rifle and 578 in smallbore. Junior Michael Dietz added an 1152 with scores of 581 and 571 in air rifle and smallbore respectively. Senior Sam Payne and Lars Lilleng rounded out the team score with a pair of 1151 aggregate marks. Payne's final score was boosted by a 581 in smallbore. Lilleng's day was highlighted by a 583 in air rifle.
The Gamecocks will travel to Martin, Tennessee on Sunday to face the Skyhawks of UTM.
