
Vermette and Vidal Mora Sweep OVC's Weekly Golf Awards

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State golf program swept the Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week honors on Wednesday, with Claire Vermette claiming the honor on the women's side and Quim Vidal Mora on the men's side.
The first OVC Weekly Award of the spring included everyone's first event, and the Gamecocks had the two best performances in the league.
Vermette picked up in the spring season where she left off in the fall, claiming sixth in a field of 80 players at the Jacksonville University Amelia Island Collegiate on Feb. 17-18. The native of St. Petersburg, Fla., fired a 1-under 215 on the par-72, 6,029-yard Amelia National Golf Club to lead JSU in its first event of the 2020 calendar year.
The score tied her career low and for the 10th-best 54-hole total in school history. She led the field in par-4 scoring at 3-under and was second among all players in pars with 42. She had just five holes above par over the three-round event.
Vidal Mora also finished sixth to open his spring schedule, leading the JSU men at the the LaTour intercollegiate at the LaTour Golf Club in Matthews, La. The native of Barcelona, Spain, fired rounds of 66-68-73 to finish at 9-under (207).
His 36-hole score of 134 tied for the fifth-best 36-hole score in school history, while his 10-under mark through two rounds tied for the second-best 36 holes vs. par in school history. He led JSU to a third-place finish and an opening-round 269 (-19) that is the second-best 18 holes in JSU history. The Gamecocks' 36-hole score of 551 (-25) is the third-best by a Gamecock team in program history.
