JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped a rain-suspended match Thursday to Kennesaw State, falling 5-2 for just its second loss of the season.
Â
The match began Wednesday and was put on hold shortly after the Owls (3-5) claimed the doubles point over the Gamecocks (9-2). KSU's Drew Lahey and Sebastian Osorio downed
Aljaz Kaplja and
Thomas Norwood 6-3 in the first set, and Gaston Muhammad and Harvery Conway edged
Guillermo Agost and
Jordi Blanchar 6-4 to win the point.
Â
Joaquin Vallejo and
Sergio Lizarraga were able to salvage a set win at No. 1 with a 5-4 victory over Bryan Triana and Sergio Ingles.
Â
Just as singles play began, play was suspended due to rain, but the two teams reconvened Thursday to finish up the match. Kennesaw State went on to win four of the six matchups to top the Gamecocks by three.
Â
After KSU's Seru Tezuka won in two sets (6-1, 6-4) over Blanchar at No. 6, Kaplja put JSU on the board with a two-set win (6-3, 6-3) over Conway at No. 5.
Â
The Owls won the next three contests to win the match. The Gamecocks' only other point came with Norwood winning in three sets over Osorio at No. 3.
