HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team dropped just its second match of the season Friday with a 4-3 loss at Southern Mississippi.

The Gamecocks (6-2) fell to a Golden Eagles (10-1) team that is riding a five-match winning streak. Jax State took the doubles point, but Southern Miss went on to win four singles matches to pick up the win.

Harriet Hamilton and
Cristina Moll Alles continued their doubles dominance at No. 1 with a 6-4 win over Sarah Medik and Monique Burton. The duo improved to 6-1 in doubles action with the victory.
Alba Conejero and
Malin Buechner followed up with a 6-1 win over Katia de la Garza and Warisara Lee at No. 2, pushing their season record to 5-2.
Balsen Kaya and
Alessia Locati's match at No. 3 went unfinished.

In singles action, the Gamecocks claimed just two points. Buechner won her team-leading seventh match of the season with a two-set victory over Medik. The senior topped her opponent 6-4, 6-2 en route to the win. Fellow senior
Alba Conejero won in three sets over Tanit Lopez, earning her second win in three singles appearances. The nail-biter went in Conejero's favor 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Jax State dropped its remaining four singles contests in straight sets. Moll Alles' 6-0, 6-2 loss at No. 1 was her first singles defeat of the year.

Jacksonville State looks to bounce back Wednesday, March 11 when it hosts Kennesaw State. The match against the Owls is set to begin at 3 p.m. at the JSU Tennis Courts.
