Gamecocks dealt nonconference loss at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Jacksonville State men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 nonconference decision to UAB at the Blazers' Campus Courts on Sunday.

UAB (5-7) picked up the win by taking the doubles point and three of four completed singles contests. The Gamecocks (7-4) fell to just 6-4 in non-Ohio Valley Conference play with the loss.

Joaquin Vallejo put the lone point on the board for Jax State, earning a two-set win over Roman Postolka at No. 1. The JSU senior took the first set 6-4 and followed up with a 6-3 win in the second.

Vallejo improved to a team-best 8-2 with the win, earning all eight of his wins in the No. 1 match. He's now won six of his last seven singles matchups.

Guillermo Agost, Aljaz Kaplja and Maj Tomac fell at No. 2, 3 and 4, respectively, while Thomas Norwood and Jordi Blanchar saw their contest go unfinished in the first sets.

The Blazers took all three sets in doubles action.

The Gamecocks continue their five-match road swing Wednesday when they travel to Montgomery to take on Alabama State. First serve against the Hornets is set for 1 p.m.
