
JSU Rifle Dominates The Citadel on Sunday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State rifle team capped off the opening weekend of the season with a dominating performance over the women's team of The Citadel.
After recording a 4652 on Saturday against The Citadel, the Gamecocks were 16 shots better than Saturday's mark as they turned in a 4668 on Sunday. The Citadel finished with a 4396 on the day. JSU was once again solid in air rifle with a team score of 2357 in that portion of the match, while adding a 2311 in smallbore.
For the second consecutive day, junior Mackenzie Van Patten paced the Gamecocks with an aggregate mark of 1171, which was the best score turned in on the day. She registered a 594 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Freshman Angus Babcock was solid in his first collegiate action this weekend as he placed second behind Van Patten with an 1167. His total score was bolstered by a 591 in air rifle and he added a 576 in smallbore.
Freshman Kim Jettenberg was impressive this weekend, finishing third on Sunday after a score of 1164. Jettenberg shot a 589 in smallbore and a 575 in smallbore. She was one mark off of matcher her personal best in air rifle with a 590, which was established on Saturday. Lars Lilleng and Michael Dietz rounded out the top-five individuals with an 1160 and and 1156 respectively.
JSU's Clark McWhorter also concluded his Gamecock debut on a high note with an 1153, while Owen Goad finished with an 1152.
The Gamecocks will see The Citadel for a third consecutive match as they host the Bulldogs at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on Sunday, Oct. 10.
