
JSU Rifle Tops Georgia Southern & VMI

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State rifle team claimed the top spot of a tri-match with Georgia Southern and VMI on Saturday in Charleston, South Carolina after winning the Saturday outing by 36 points.
The Gamecocks fired a tally of 4657 after posting 2359 in air rifle and a 2298 in smallbore. The Eagles of Georgia Southern turned in a 4621, while VMI finished with a 4506.
JSU senior Mackenzie Van Patten was the top overall finisher with an aggregate score of 1174. She registered a 594 in air rifle and added a 580 in smallbore. She led a Jax State contingent that placed four of the top-five finishers. Sophomore Kim Jettenberg continued to turn in solid numbers with a final score of 1167. Jettenberg claimed third place after a 590 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Freshman Clark McWhorter and sophomore Lars Lilleng. McWhorter combined scores of 584 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore for a total of 1161. Lilleng rounded out the top five individuals with a score of 1156. Lilleng carded a 578 in both air rifle and smallbore.
Senior Michael Dietz and junior Kaila Jones bolstered JSU's air rifle mark. Dietz contributed a 590, while Jones accumulated a 585.
Jax State will host in-state rival UAB on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
