
Gamecock Rifle Begins NCAA Qualifier Tune Up

OXFORD, Miss. – With the season coming down to the final two shooting opportunities ahead of the NCAA Qualifier match, the Jacksonville State rifle team had its first of two tune up outings with a match against Murray State on the University of Mississippi campus on Sunday.
The Gamecocks fired an aggregate score of 4649 after combining a 2344 in air rifle and a 2305 in smallbore. The Racers turned in a final tally of 4713.
Jax State was led by sophomore Kim Jettenberg after she accumulated a final mark of 1168. Jettenberg shot a team-best 585 in smallbore and matched her smallbore score in air rifle ti place sixth overall. Senior Mackenzie Van Patten registered the highest air rifle mark with a 590. Van Patten finished the match with an 1167 after a 577 in air rifle.
Sophomore Lars Lilleng finished eighth with a total of 1164, while freshman Angus Babcock recorded an 1161 after scoring a 581 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore for a final score of 1161 to place just behind Lilleng. Junior Kaila Jones and senior Michael Dietz bolstered the JSU air rifle total with a 588 and 580 respectively. Senior Owen Goad was included in the team scoring for smallbore and posted a 566.
The Gamecocks will host in-state rival UAB on Wednesday, Feb. 16 in the final tune up before the NCAA Qualifier match. The NCAA Qualifier match will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19 on the University of Mississippi campus.
