
Rifle Focuses On NCAA Qualifier After Solid Outing on Wednesday

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle teamed had its final tune up before the NCAA Qualifier match on Wednesday with a duel with in-state foe UAB at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
The Gamecocks fired an impressive 4666 against its home targets, while the Blazers posted a 4534. JSU recorded a 2355 in air rifle and a 2311 in smallbore.
Sophomore Kim Jettenberg continued to pace the JSU scores as she claimed the top spot on the individual leaderboard after registering an aggregate mark of 1171. Jettenberg fired a 581 in smallbore and added a 590 in air rifle. She finished four marks ahead of JSU senior Mackenzie Van Patten, who turned in a final tally of 1167. Van Patten's day was highlighted by the top air rifle score of the match with a 596. She finished the day with a 571 in smallbore.
Sophomore Lars Lilleng had an impressive day with match-best 582 in smallbore. He finished fourth overall after adding a 584 in air rifle. Senior Michael Dietz and junior Kaila Jones rounded out JSU's team score with combined scores of 1152 and 1144 respectively.
Freshman Angus Babcock placed fifth individually with a 588 in air rifle and a 570 in smallbore. Freshman Clark McWhorter added a 581 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Junior Taryn Granger rounded out the top-10 individual leader list with combined mark of 1143.
The Gamecocks will look to improve their NCAA Rifle Championships standing on Saturday, Feb. 19, participating in the NCAA Qualifier match in Oxford, Mississippi.
