FORT COLLINS, CO – The Jacksonville State Unversity women's basketball team will take on the Tulane University Green Wave on Thursday, Mar. 17 at 6 :30 p.m. in New Orleans, La. In the 24th Postseason WNIT, as announced by the tournament committee on Monday. Â
Â
Thursday's game will mark the first all-time appearance in the WNIT for JSU and is the first postseason tournament appearance in the program's Division-I history.
Â
"It's huge for our program to be in a national tournament for the first time in the Division-I era," said Head Coach Rick Pietri. "Hopefully it lays the groundwork for us to be able to do this again. We are playing an extremely high-quality opponent, they finished third in the American Athletic Conference, which is a very good women's basketball league. We are going to have our hands full but it is a challenge that we will look forward to."
Â
The Gamecocks' trip to the WNIT continues a historic 24-7 season in which JSU advanced to the ASUN Championship Final for the first time since 1999. Seniors Kiana Johnson and Kennedy Gavin led the Gamecocks in the ASUN tournament and were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
Â
JSU and Tulane will meet for just the second time on Thursday. The Green Wave hold a 1-0 advantage in the series with a 54-51 win over the Gamecocks on Nov. 23, 2004 in New Orleans, La.
Â
Tulane enters the postseason with a 20-9 record on the year following a quarterfinal exit in the American Athletic Conference Tournament with a 65-57 loss to Houston.
Â
"We are getting rested today, we gave our kids the day off so that we can physically recover. We have gone a stretch of nine days with activity with the way the ASUN postseason is set up," said Pietri. "We will have two days of preparation, which is what we normally do for an opponent, so I'm not concerned about that. We will prepare as best we can for these guys and show up there Thursday night and give them the best we have."

Information on how to watch is not available at this time and can be found on JSUGamecocksports.com, when available.
Â
The winner of the matchup between Tulane and JSU will take on the winner between Alabama and Troy. The second round will take place between Mar. 19-22.
