CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Jacksonville State beach volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in the opening day of the Austin Peay tournament Friday against Austin Peay and UT Martin.
The Gamecocks opened the day with a 5-0 loss to the Governor's before dropping the second match of the day, 5-0 to UT Martin.
JSU was unable to win a set in any matches against Austin Peay.
In the match against UT Martin, JSU forced a third set in the first and second flights. The No. 1 duo of
Claire Ochs and
Kylee Quigley earned a 28-26 win in the first set before falling 21-23, and 15-8 in the final two sets for a 2-1 loss in the match. In the second flight,
Erin Carmichael and
Lena Kindermann dropped the first set 18-21 but responded with a 23-21 victory in the second, forcing a third. The pair fell short, 15-5, in the tiebreaking set to fall 2-1 in the match.
Tomorrow, Saturday April 16, JSU will close out the regular season against ASUN foe Eastern Kentucky at 3 p.m. The ASUN Conference tournament will begin on Friday, April 22, in Huntsville, Ala. All teams will advance to the pool-play stage of the tournament on April 22-24. The top teams will advance to the semifinal rounds on April 25.
