JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State beach volleyball team will open the ASUN Conference Championships on Friday, April 22, in Huntsville, Ala. with a pair of matches.
The ASUN Beach volleyball championships features a pool play format April 22-24, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the semifinals on Monday, April 25.
JSU will open pool play on Friday with a match against North Alabama at 10 a.m. and conclude day one against Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex.
Following Friday's matches, JSU will continue pool play on Saturday April 23, against Central Arkansas at 8:30 a.m. and against four-time champion North Florida at 4 p.m.
Pool play will conclude on Sunday April 24, as the Gamecocks take on Jacksonville at 8:30 a.m.
JSU enters its first ever ASUN Championship tournament 3-19 overall on the year. In the program's seven-year history, the Gamecocks are 3-5 in conference tournaments. In 2021, the squad upset the No. 1 seed Morehead State in the OVC Conference Tournament to advance to the semifinals but fell just short, 3-0 to UT Martin.
The Gamecocks enter the tournament on a two-match win streak following a pair of wins over EKU to close out the regular season slate.
North Alabama and Central Arkansas are the only familiar opponents on JSU's pool play schedule. The Gamecocks opened the year with a 5-0 loss to Central Arkansas and dropped two matches later in the year to UNA, 5-0 and 4-1.
Florida Gulf Coast enters the postseason ranked No. 20 in the latest AVCA Collegiate Beach Volleyball Poll with a 23-8 overall record.
North Florida is 21-12 overall and is receiving votes in the latest poll.
Jacksonville enters the tournament 10-22 overall on the year.
The duo of
Erin Carmichael and
Lena Kindermann lead the Gamecocks this season with eight wins, seven of which came form the third flight. The pair has combined for 17 wins during their career, the most in program history. Kindermann is the all-time leader in program history with 24 wins. Carmichael and Kindermann each hold the single season record for wins with nine. The duo can tie or break their record in the ASUN tournament.
