Kindermann and Carmichael Earn a Pair of Wins, JSU Drops Two in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. Lena Kindermann and Erin Carmichael earned a pair of wins on the second day of the ASUN Conference Championships as the Gamecocks fell to Central Arkansas 4-1 and North Florida 4-1.

JSU opened competition against the Sugar Bears in the fourth and fifth flights. UCA controlled the fifth flight early, winning 5-21 before taking the first point in the match with a 21-9 win in the second set.

In the fourth flight, Brooklyn Schiffli and Paulina Lindberg battled with the Sugar Bears in the first set but fell short 23-25.

On court two, Peyton Pauze and Taylor Thomas dropped the first set, 7-21 and trailed 6-10 in the second before coming back to tie the set, 20-20. The pair fell short 20-22 in the set, giving UCA its second point of the match.

The Sugar Bears added a third, match-clinching, point on court four, defeating Schiffli and Lindberg, 17-21 in the second set.

On court one, Kylee Quigley and Claire Ochs battled but fell short in straight sets, 16-21, 11-21.

Lena Kindermann and Erin Carmichael earned the lone point for JSU after defeating 11-21, 21-19, 15-13. The pair battled back from a loss in set one to force a third set and win their 18th career-match as a pair. The duo is JSU's all-time leader in career-wins as a pair. Kindermann leads in wins individually with 25.

In the second match of the day against North Florida JSU battled early on in the fifth flight as Randall and Lonergan fought to the end but fell short in straight sets, 11-21, 17-21.

On court four, Schiffli and Lindberg battled with the Osprey's but dropped the match in straight sets, 5-21, 14-21.

As defending-champion UNF took the first two points, the duos of Pauze and Thomas and Kindermann and Schiffli earned wins in set one, 21-14 and 21-15, respectively. Both UNF pairs earned wins in the second sets and forced a tie-breaking third. Kindermann and Carmichael added their 19th career-win with a 15-13 victory in the third, giving JSU its only point of the match. Pauze and Thomas dropped the third 9-15.

Quigley and Ochs dropped the first flight in straight sets, 12-21, 7-21, as UNF took the match in, 4-1.

ASUN Conference Championship play continues for the Gamecocks on Sunday, April 23 as the squad takes on Jacksonville at 8:30 a.m.
