
Jax State Rifle Edges Morehead State in Home Debut

JACKSONVILLE – The No. 16 Jacksonville State rifle team edged out former Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State in its first home match of the season on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the Jax State campus.
The Gamecocks, who posted back-to-back scores of 4675 in their first two outings of the season, fired a 4672 on Saturday, while the Eagles were one shot back at 4671. The difference in the match was Jax State's 2365 in air rifle after posting a 2307 in smallbore. MSU recorded a 2350 in air rifle and a 2321 in smallbore.
Senior Lars Lilleng turned in the best aggregate score of the day with an 1173. Lilleng fired a 592 in air rifle and posted a 581 in smallbore. Junior Sam Burrow carried the Gamecocks in air rifle with the best mark of the match with a 595 to help him claim third overall. Freshman Frans Rasmusson followed Lilling's 592 with a 591 in air rifle, while senior Kim Jettenburg rounded out the top-five scores in air rifle with a 587.
Sophomore Clark McWhorter turned in a 575 in smallbore, while sophomore Annie Iannotti finished smallbore with a 561. McWhorter and Iannotti both put together scores of 585 in air rifle.
Jax State returns to action next weekend with a pair of matches in the Palmetto State. The Gamecocks will face The Citadel on Friday, October 27 and Sunday, October 29 in Charleston, South Carolina.
