
Rifle Fires Season Best at Gamecock Invitational

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team turned in its best score of the season in the annual Gamecock Invitational this weekend inside Rowe Hall on the Jax State campus.
The Gamecocks posted an aggregate mark of 4686, besting the previous high of 4683 shot earlier in the season against The Citadel. Jax State fired 2360 in air rifle and added a 2326 in smallbore in the two-day event held at the Gamecock Rifle Range. Jax State finished second in the four-team event behind former Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State, who posted a 4717.
Jax State was led by freshman Frans Rasmusson and junior Sam Burrow in the final match of the fall semester. Rasmusson claimed third place after combining a 595 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore for an 1178. After a 593 in air rifle on Friday against UT Martin, he was five marks off of a perfect 600 in the invite outing and shared the top score in air rifle with MSU's Matias Kiuru. Burrow finished right behind him with a final mark of 1176. Burrow turned in a 591 in air rifle and the Gamecocks' best smallbore score of 585.
Senior Lars Lilleng was a top-10 finisher with a final tally of 1172 after carding a 589 in air rifle and a 583 in smallbore. A pair of sophomores strengthened Jax State's air rifle score as Clark McWhorter and Annie Iannotti turned in sold marks. McWhorter added a 587 while Iannotti recorded a 585.
UTM finished the weekend in Jacksonville with a 4624, while in-state foe UAB rounded out the team standings with a 4578.
The Gamecocks will return to action on January 13 against The Citadel inside Rowe Hall at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
