JACKSONVILLE – A Gamecock men's tennis team in search of a response delivered in a big way in Thursday's non-conference win over Wallace State Community College. Jacksonville State was able to halt a three-match losing streak with a 7-0 triumph at the JSU Tennis Courts.
"I'm happy with the way our guys have responded to the last couple matches with this result," associate head coach
Trey Morris said. "It was a match that was already scheduled for today, and with the threat of severe weather we had to move the match up. Despite all of that, our guys were able to focus and lock in."

Dominant doubles performances by the tandems of
Konstantin Benneman and
Logan Haga and
Vicente Arbelaez and
Alejandro Beneyto Sanchez secured the opening point with ease. Benneman and Haga claimed a 6-2 triumph on court two while Arbelaez and Beneyto Sanchez tallied a 6-1 decision on court three in just seven minutes.

The Gamecocks kept the ball rolling in singles competition. Arbelaez (6-0, 7-6 [7-5]), Beneyto Sanchez (6-0, 6-2), Benneman (6-1, 6-2),
Matei Palcau (6-1, 6-3), and
Lucius Soller (6-1, 6-4) all earned two-set victories. Haga clinched the shutout with a win in a three-set marathon in the no. 5 singles flight.

Jax State's men will play their third match in five days with Saturday morning's rivalry showdown at Troy. Men's action will begin at 11 a.m. and the women's contest will follow around 2 p.m. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
