Jacksonville State Rolls to Sweep of Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE – Jacksonville State women's tennis got back on the right track in Sunday's victory at Alabama A&M. The Gamecocks cruised to a 7-0 win over the Bulldogs, posting their sixth sweep of the Spring.
 
"I was mostly happy with how we played today and winning 7-0 is always something to celebrate," head coach Mike Mucci said after the victory. "We have some things to clean up before UAB and conference play, but I was proud of how we responded overall after a tough loss yesterday."
 
Jax State (10-3) claimed the doubles point quickly at the Alabama A&M Tennis Courts. Zuzana Pavelekova and Anna Syrova rolled to a 6-0 triumph on court two before Irene Artigas and Serafima Shastova won in the no. 3 doubles flight, 6-3. 
 
Singles play was equally as disastrous for the Bulldogs (4-7). Artigas swept AAMU's no. 6 singles competitor 6-0, 6-0, and Syrova picked up a 6-0, 6-2, win on court three. Pavelekova (6-4, 6-4) clinched the match in the no. 5 singles flight before Shastova (6-1, 4-6, 10-3), Romane Mosse (6-1, 7-5), and Dariana Prato (7-6 [7-4], 6-4) tallied victories to close out the match. 
 
The Gamecocks resume non-conference play at UAB on Thursday. First serve in Birmingham is set for 1 p.m. Jacksonville State will then head to Central Arkansas on March 12 and Eastern Kentucky on March 17 to open ASUN Conference action. The next home match for the women's team will be March 19 at 1 p.m. against North Alabama.
