FLORENCE, Ala. – A slow start on the road led to a tough loss for Jacksonville State men's tennis in Wednesday's ASUN Conference match at North Alabama. Although freshman Alin Fatu scored an impressive win in singles action, the Lions completed the season sweep of the Gamecocks with a 4-1 victory at the UNA Tennis Complex.
 
Jax State (11-10, 3-4) dropped the first two doubles results to start the day in northwest Alabama. UNA (8-9, 3-4) picked up a quick decision on court two before clinching with a 6-4 win in the no. 1 doubles flight.
 
A young Gamecock squad could never get the momentum in their favor in singles play. After a Lion triumph on court six, Fatu responded with a 6-3, 6-3, result in the no. 3 singles pairing. As fate would have it, Jacksonville State would not secure the match in the remaining four singles flights which all went three-sets. North Alabama victories on courts one and four did the Red-and-White in, securing a big win for the home team. Matei Palcau and Lucius Soller were battling in three-set classics when the Lions clinched.
 
With the lone singles win for Jax State on Wednesday, Alin Fatu improved to 8-7 in singles action in his first year of college tennis. The Bucharest, Romania, native has also scored six doubles triumphs and is a perfect 3-0 at the no. 3 singles spot this season.
 
Jacksonville State concludes the regular season with one final league contest on Saturday at home. The Gamecocks will host Austin Peay at the JSU Tennis Courts with first serve set for 10 a.m. The women's match against the Governors will follow at 1 p.m. Links to follow along with live stats for both of those matches will be provided at JSUGamecockSports.com.
