
Gamecocks Fire Program-Best at Withrow Open On Saturday

MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State rifle team fired a program-best 4703 on Saturday in the Withrow Open on the Murray State campus.
The Gamecocks, who were one of five teams competing inside the Pat Spurgin Rifle Range throughput the weekend in Murray, Kentucky, turned in a 2365 in air rifle and its best marks in smallbore this season with a 2338. The smallbore score established a new school record for the discipline. The Gamecocks fired a 2334 in the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference Championshi. In-state foe UAB tallied a 4586, while North Georgia recorded a team mark of 4657 on Saturday. The host Racers and Kentucky will finish up the event on Sunday.
For the second consecutive weekend, freshman Frans Rasmusson led Jax State with a final aggregate mark of 1181. Rasmusson carded the top smallbore score of 588 and finished the day with an impressive 593 in air rifle. Junior Sam Burrow was right behind his teammate with a combined effort of 1178. Burrow matched Rasmusson in air rifle with a 593 and was three marks back of him in smallbore with a 585. Senior Lars Lilleng turned in a solid effort on Saturday with an 1170 after combining a 589 in air rifle and a 581 in smallbore.
Sophomore Annie Iannotti and sophomore Clark McWhorter bolstered the team mark with an 1168 by Iannotti and an 1164 by McWhorter. Iannotti's score was highlighted by a 590 in air rifle, while McWhorter had a 584 in smallbore.
The Gamecocks will make a second trip to the Bluegrass State next weekend, traveling to the other end of the state to Morehead, Kentucky to meet the Eagles of Morehead State.
