
Rifle Edged By UTEP In Sunday Contest

EL PASO, Texas – The Jacksonville State rifle team wrapped up the weekend in the state of Texas on Sunday with a narrow setback to UTEP.
After the Gamecocks fired a 4675 on Saturday at the UTEP Rifle Range and downed the Miners by eight marks, Jax State posted a combined mark of 4674 on Sunday. UTEP tallied a 4677. The difference in the contest came in air rifle with UTEP recording a 2370, while Jax State counted a 2366. Jax State had the advantage in smallbore with a 2308, while the Miners carded a 2307.
Sophomore Frans Rasmusson led the Gamecocks with a third-place finish in the overall standings with an 1173 on the day. Rasmusson shared the club's top air rifle mark of 594 with freshman Jenny Ek. He added a 579 in smallbore to conclude the match.
Senior Clark McWhorter placed right behind Rasmusson with a match mark of 1169. McWhorter recorded a 589 in air rifle and a 580 in smallbore. Ek rounded out the top-five individuals with a combined mark of 1165. After her score in air rifle, she posted a 571 in smallbore.
Senior Sam Burrow claimed sixth place with an identical score of Ek's (1165). He had a 587 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore. Junior Annie Iannotti finished among the top-10 with an 1159.
Sophomore Debi Weiser capped off Jax State's air rifle score with a 591.
The Gamecocks return to action next weekend at home with a Friday match against UT Martin and Memphis before hosting the annual Gamecock Invitational on Saturday and Sunday. Both events will be held at the Gamecock Rifle range inside Rowe Hall on the Jax State campus.
