ATLANTA – Jacksonville State women's tennis dropped the doubles point and could not recover in a 4-3 loss at Georgia State on Friday afternoon. The Gamecocks rallied for three singles wins but came just short of completing the comeback in Atlanta.
The tandem of
Irene Artigas and
Dariana Prato scored a 6-3 win in doubles action on court three. Unfortunately, the Panthers (2-5) picked up a 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles and a 6-4 triumph in the decisive second flight to claim the opening point.
Jacksonville State (3-4) was down 3-0 before finally getting on the board in singles action.
Polina Ramenskaja downed Georgia State's Francesca Miglio, 6-4, 6-1, in the second court, and Artigas added a 6-3, 6-4, victory in No. 5 singles. Though Prato won a three-set thriller in the third flight, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7, it was too little, too late, in the 4-3 setback.
The Gamecocks return to play next weekend with a pair of road pairings. They play at Arkansas State at 11 a.m. next Saturday, then meet Central Arkansas at 11 a.m. Sunday. Links to follow along with live stats will be provided at JaxStateSports.com.
