MONROE, La. – For the second-straight match, the Jacksonville State women's tennis team has grabbed a road win in the Bayou State.
Just two days after a win at Louisiana Tech, the Gamecocks (7-7) took down ULM on Monday morning in a match that was pushed back from Sunday due to rain. They won the doubles point and then handled business in singles to post the 4-1 win over the Warhawks (1-9) at Heard Stadium.
It didn't take long for the Gamecock doubles teams to put Jax State in front in the match. The No. 2 doubles tandem of
Irene Artigas and
Serafima Shastova quickly disposed of An Del Campo Suarez and Giovanna Pereira, 6-1.
They were quickly followed by a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles by
Dariana Prato and
Polina Ramenskaja over ULM's Tamara Bachmann and Alice Klinteby, sealing the doubles point.
Anna Syrova and
Ella Tuomela led 5-3, when the point was clinched.
Jax State jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Warhawks soon after the singles matches got underway. Tuomela cruised to a straight-set win (6-0, 6-0) over Raquel Alvaro at No. 6, shortly followed by another straight-set win at No. 5 (6-1, 6-0) by Artigas over Mackenzie King.
ULM got on the board with a win at No. 2 singles, a 6-1, 6-1 decision by Del Campo Suarez over Ramenskaja, but the Gamecocks put the match away at No. 1 with a straight-set win (6-4, 6-4) from Shastova over Klinteby.
The Gamecocks will try and extend their win streak to three matches on Tuesday afternoon, when they close their trip to Louisiana with a match at New Orleans.
