FLORENCE, Ala. – Gamecock volleyball fell in both Friday's beach duals at the Shoals Beach Bash. Jacksonville State was swept by Austin Peay, 5-0, before falling to a veteran North Alabama bunch by the same score later in the day.
Jax State (0-2) opened beach volleyball action against the Governors (4-4) at the UNA Beach Volleyball Courts and were downed in two sets in all five courts. The tandems of
Hana Aiana and
Stavroula Papazoglou (12-21, 16-21) and
Caty Havekost and
Brooklyn Schiffli (13-21, 15-21) totaled a team-best 28 total points in the season-opening match.
North Alabama (7-2) rolled to a decisive victory on their home courts as well. An experienced Lions squad, fresh off a dominant win over Carson-Newman earlier in the afternoon, secured five two-setters to take the in-state battle. The Red-and-White found the most success in the fourth flight as
Kiara Amigon and
Morgan McClure tallied 23 points in a 13-21, 10-21, setback.
Jacksonville State volleyball returns to action on Saturday in northwest Alabama as the indoor team will scrimmage UNA to round out an action-packed weekend. The squad returns to the beach courts later this month against Mercer and Emmanuel on March 27 at the Bears Beach Bash in Macon, Ga.
