LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Jacksonville State volleyball team was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's 2023-24 Team Academic Award list presented by INTENT on Thursday.
The Gamecocks posted a 3.57 grade-point average as a team during the 2023-24 academic year, making the requirements with ease. Over 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs achieved a 3.3 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale to be awarded the honor that began in the 1992-93 academic year.
Liberty, Middle Tennessee, Sam Houston, UTEP, Western Kentucky, and 2024-25 addition Kennesaw State also won the Team Academic Award out of the CUSA. Liberty brought home the AVCA's Team Academic Honor Roll Award for being in the top 20% of GPAs in their division.
For Jax State, this is their 10th AVCA Team Academic Award over the last 11 years. It also marks the 16th Team Academic Award since 2004. This is not the only academic achievement for the Gamecocks in 2023-24. Maddie Stayer, Gracie Danziger, Ellie Garrett, and Brooklyn Schiffli earned Academic All-District distinctions from College Sports Communicators in Dec. based on their performance in the classroom and on the court in 2023.
13 volleyball standouts made the CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll. The 13 included Kiara Amigon, Danziger, Garrett, Carley Lynch, Morgan McClure, Kaylee Moseley, Stavroula Papazoglou, Parker Phenicie, Selin Sakiroglu, Schiffli, Kathryn Smith, Stayer, and Luci Wilkinson. Garrett, Schiffli, and Smith were named to the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal list.
The Gamecocks look to build upon the 2023 volleyball season as head coach Derek Schroeder enters his second year at the helm. While the squad pursues more success on the court, they will hope to continue their long-standing academic successes as well.
