Women's Basketball Ready For Tiger Turkey Tip Off

STOCKTON, Ca. – Jax State women's basketball is set for a pair of games at Pacific's Tiger Turkey Tip-Off on Friday and Saturday. The Gamecocks face UC Davis Friday at 3 p.m. central and Pacific Saturday at 5:30 p.m. central.

Jax State is coming off a 65-62 triumph at New Orleans on Nov. 22. Despite New Orleans outscoring Jax State 28-17 in the final quarter, Jax State secured the wire-to-wire victory as they held the lead for 38 minutes and 50 seconds. Mya Barnes and Vitoria Carvalho led the way for the Gamecocks as Barnes scored 22 points on 8-for-13 shooting and Carvalho added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
 
Career Day for Gamecock Duo
Barnes' 22 points against New Orleans set a new career-best in points for the senior forward. Barnes shot 8-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from three in the win. Carvalho's 12 points and 13 boards were both new career highs for the Idaho transfer.
 
Thornsbury Dishes Dimes
In the season opener against LaGrange, Kyera Thornsbury had a career-best eight as­sists to zero turnovers. Against New Orleans, Thornsbury added seven assists to zero turnovers to lead the way for Jax State.
 
Barnes Preseason Honors
Barnes was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-CUSA Team. Barnes averaged 7.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks on 27.8 min­utes per game last season. Barnes' 1.2 blocks per game and 35 total blocks ranked her fifth in the league in both categories last season.
 
Jones' 26 Performance
In the loss to Southern Miss on Nov. 13, Adriana Jones led the Gamecocks with 26 points. Jones' 26 points against the Golden Eagles was only the third time in the last five years that a Jax State player has scored 25 or more points in a contest. Kennedy Gavin scored 27 against Kennesaw State on Jan. 19, 2023, and Rachel Johnson scored 25 against FIU on Feb. 24, 2024.
 
Series History
The Gamecocks will be facing UC Davis and Pacific for the first time this week.
