KANSAS CITY - Jaron Pierre Jr.'s name continues to be placed among the ranks of some of the top players in the nation, this time by being selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Southeast District First Team. Pierre is averaging 21.8 points per game this season, a mark that ranks top five nationally.
The first team features several notable names, including SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome as well as other First Team All-SEC selections in Walter Clayton Jr. and Mark Sears.
The redshirt senior has stacked up the honors this postseason, being named the Conference USA Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and being added to the Lou Henson Award Watchlist, an award given annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball.
Pierre is one of just two mid-major players selected to the Southeast District first team, joining UAB's Yaxel Lendeborg.
Pierre and the Gamecocks are coming off a dominant first round victory over Georgia Tech in the NIT on Tuesday and look ahead to face the winner of Northern Colorado and UC Irvine in the next round of the event.
