JACKSONVILLE – Jax State announced its 2025 Men's and Women's Cross Country slate on Thursday, featuring six regular season meets, beginning with a pair of in-state contests. Both the Foothills Invitational and Southern Showcase will be hosted by Jax State.
"We enjoy being able to open season on our home course at the Foothills Invitational," said Provence, "It provides an opportunity to work out some of the rust from a long break in competition."
For the second consecutive season, Jax State will open its season at Choccolocco Park in Oxford on Aug. 29 with the Foothills Invitational. Last season, the Gamecock men won the event with the women placing second. The Gamecocks will then go to Huntsville to host the Southern Showcase on Sept. 12.
"Showcase will be our first big test of the season. It is important that we show up and use this as a learning opportunity since our conference and regional championship meets will be hosted on the same course."
Following the two in-state meets, Jax State will travel for the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri on Sept. 26. Missouri's course will also be the site of the Division I National Championship this fall.
"It will be a fun experience running on a course of this prestige," said Provence, "The last time I checked, there were 84 teams and several nationally ranked opponents in attendance. It will definitely have a postseason feel about it and we look forward to seeing how we can compete against the field."
Jax State will then take on a trio of October meets to close out the regular season, beginning on Oct. 3 in Fairburn, Ga. with the Georgia Tech Invitational. The Gamecocks will follow with the Upstate Invitational on Oct. 18 in Spartanburg, S.C., a meet that the men won last season with the women placing second.
"I believe the schedule is balanced well, providing opportunities to compete against several regionally and nationally ranked teams," said Provence, "It will also prepare the teams well for post-season competition."
Jax State will finish up its regular season at West Georgia with the Gary Wilson Invitational on Oct. 21.
The Gamecocks will begin their postseason run at the CUSA Championships in Huntsville, Ala. on Nov. 1. It will be the second consecutive season the CUSA Cross Country Championships will take place in the state of Alabama. The NCAA South Region Championship is also set for Huntsville, beginning on Nov. 14.
Last Season the Jax State men placed third in the CUSA Tournament while the women placed sixth, both participating in the NCAA South Regional in Tallahassee and earning the best team regional finishes in program history.
"When we finish season, we want to look back and feel confident that we finished in a better place than the previous year," Provence said, "We have the opportunity to do something really special, but it doesn't happen overnight."
The NCAA Division I National Championship is set for Nov. 22, 2025 in Columbia, Mo.
