Jax State's women's golf team took on one of the best fields it had ever competed against at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic to open the 2025-26 season.
The Gamecocks were 18
th among the teams competing, posting +49 over the three day tournament. Each day saw improvement after a 312 team score on Monday was followed with rounds of 302 and 299.
During the 54-hole event, Southern California posted a tournament record score of 819 with Jasmin Koo and Kylie Chong tying for medalist honors with a tournament record total of 203 (-13). Francesca Fiorellini of LSU set a school, course, and tournament record with a 63 in the opening round.
"It was exciting to get back to competing together as a team again," said coach
Robbie Fields. "It was not the start to the season we were hoping for, but there were bright spots along the way —especially Julie (Kleppe) settling into college golf and shooting her first collegiate round under-par today."
Kleppe bounced back from an 83 in the first round with a 78 in the second and a one-under 71 in the final round on Tuesday.
The top individual on the Jax State roster was sophomore
Lara El Chaib with an eight-over total of 224. Classmate
Rebekka Stutley was 66
th with a 12-over total of 228.
The Gamecocks were one of just three teams to record multiple eagles during the week, joining LSU and Asheville with two as El Chaib had one on the 542-yard Par 5 second on Tuesday and Stutley with one on the Par 4 eighth on Monday.
Rachel Camp was 87
th with a total of 235 (82-73-80) and
Emilie Clausen was 93
rd at 242 (85-74-83).
"We learned a lot about where we still need to work and improve on for this season, and got to see where we measure up against the best in the country," said Fields. "We will get back to work on executing the simple things first and build on from there. I am proud of the fight from everyone this week and daily improvement. We look forward to our next opportunity at Tennessee."
Next up for Jax State is the Mercedes Benz Intercollegiate at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
