DALLAS – Meshack Kosgei,
Nelbat Kiprop Kirwa and
Mercy Jebet all three earned a CUSA weekly honor this week following their performances at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri.
Kosgei was tabbed the CUSA Men's Athlete of the Week with Kirwa and Jebet taking home CUSA Men's and Women's Freshman of the Week honors respectively. Through three meets this season, Jax State has now earned eight CUSA awards.
Kosgei earns his third career CUSA weekly award and second CUSA Athlete of the Week honors after placing 40th place in the Men's 8K Black race at the Gans Creek Classic. Kosgei's mark of 24:20.8 is the sixth best 8K mark in program history and the second-best finish in the past 15 years.
Kirwa takes home his second Freshman of the Week honor following a 73
rd place finish and a time of 24:36.5. He was the second Gamecock to cross the finish line and helped Jax State place 14th out of 26 teams. Kirwa also earned CUSA Freshman of the Week honors after the Southern Showcase earlier this season.
Jebet secured her third weekly honor through three meets this season, being designated the CUSA Women's Freshman of the Week following an 18
th place finish in the Women's 6K Black race. Jebet crossed the finish line with a time of 21:05.7, the second best 6K time in Jax State's Program History.
Jebet also earned CUSA Athlete and Freshman of the Week honors following the opening weekend of action, taking home the individual title at the Foothills Invitational.
The Gans Creek Classic field featured 14 of the USTFCCA Top-25 teams on the men's side and nine on the women's side.
