LAS CRUCES, N.M.—Jax State failed to build momentum during a 3-0 loss at New Mexico State Saturday afternoon, dropping both games of the weekend roadtrip.

The Aggies improved to 11-10 overall and 4-4 in Conference USA after posting 41 kills, five aces, and five blocks in three sets.

NM State scored seven of the first eight points of the match, scoring six kills on their first eight swings. The Gamecocks (3-17, 0-8 CUSA) had a tough time getting the offense going and didn't get their first kill until Taya Nordmann found an opening on the 15^th rally of the game. The Aggies racked up 20 kills in a 25-18 win in the first.

In the second, five attack errors by the Aggies helped Jax State hold a 12-10 lead and force a timeout by the hosts. A pair of Tess Fuqua kills and an ace tied the set at 13, then built a three-point lead out of the technical timeout at 18-15 to force a Jax State timeout.

The Aggies then won seven of the next nine rallies for a 25-17 win to take a 2-0 lead in the match. Five of those points came on Gamecock attack errors.

Kills by Nordmann and Lauren Buchanan helped the Gamecocks win three of four points to get within one at 10-9 in the third but the Aggies responded with four kills and their fourth block of the match to take a 15-9 advantage to take control of the set at the technical timeout. A 4-0 run led to a 19-10 advantage for the hosts en route to a 25-15 win.

Sophia Schweikert led the offense with seven kills on 27 attempts, and added seven digs. Buchanan finished with six kills and a pair of aces. Sofia Varela assisted on 15 of Jax State's 22 kills.

The Gamecocks return to the Pete Mathews Coliseum next weekend to take on FIU Friday and Saturday with matches at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
