Jax State women's golf team placed third at the University of Virginia's Keswick Cup on Monday in the single-day, 36-hole tournament.
The Gamecocks posted a +21 total of 597, finishing 22 shots behind No. 23 Virginia Tech. Fourth-ranked Virginia won the event with a total of 551.
"This was a really encouraging step in the right direction this week," said coach Robbie Fields. "It was a different opportunity but one that we took advantage of to build momentum into our last Fall event next week. I'm excited by our performance this week and proud of our team for how they responded to the challenge after last week."
Individually, Julie Waldo, Lara El Chaib, and Julie Ulvenes Kleppe tied for nine with a two-over total of 146 on the day. Waldo posted 74 in the first round and an even-par 72 in the second, getting a birdie on her 16th hole of her second round to get back to even. El Chaib posted 73 in both rounds. Kleppe shot 72 in the first and 74 in the second. Her 26 pars were tied for fifth-most in the field.
"Lara, Julie, and Julie played some really solid golf today and were each a couple of moments from turning the day into something extra special," said Fields. "Those three have been so important this season with the way that they have been playing and they continue to impress."
Caitlin Shippam was 46th with an 18-over score with rounds of 79 and 83 and Tala Clarke was 49th with a +24 total with rounds of 88 and 80.
The Gamecocks will wrap up their fall schedule next Sunday at Monday at the Samford Intercollegiate at Inverness.
