RUSTON, La.—Jax State will be looking to end a two-game slide tomorrow when it takes on LA Tech at 6:30 p.m.
The Gamecocks dropped games to UTEP and NM State last week at Pete Mathews Coliseum, but sit in third place in the Conference USA standings. LA Tech is just a game back along with WKU and Missouri State.
It will be the top two scoring defenses in Conference USA going head-to-head with the Bulldogs leading the league at 64.5 points per game and the Gamecocks at 66.9 points per game. They are also 1-2 in field goal percentage defense.
For Jax State, freshman
Jacoby Hill is coming off a career-high 21 points in the loss to New Mexico State on Saturday. The Phenix City native is averaging 9.5 points per game which is third on the team and leads the roster in minutes played at 30.4.
Senior Marcus Fitzgerald posted a season-high 14 points and played over 30 minutes in a game for the first time this season on Saturday. The veteran also connected on three 3-pointers, moving his career total to 161 made three's and 1,328 total points.
When these teams met at Pete Mathews Coliseum on January 17
th, Jax State held an 18-point lead with 8:59 to play, but escaped with a 64-60 win. The Bulldogs are tied with Liberty in Conference USA in home wins this year with 12.
Last week, LA Tech went 1-1 on the road with a double overtime win at Missouri State and lost at FIU, despite outscoring the Panthers 36-34 in the paint. The Bulldogs have now scored 30 or more points in the paint 19 times this season which includes nine of their last 10 games.
DJ Dudley's 13.6 points per game leads the team; he had 25 points, three rebounds, and two assists in the previous meeting between the teams.
