GLENCOE—The Gamecocks got better in each round of the 2026 Chris Banister Golf Classic presented by Grub Mart.
Working 54-holes of a water-logged RTJ Silver Lakes, the Gamecocks came back from a team score of 20-over the first day with a 13-over round on Monday, followed by a nine-over round in Tuesday's final round to finish just two shots behind Chattanooga. No. 21 Tennessee was 35 shots clear of the Mocs for the team title.
The Volunteers set the new single day, two-day, and tournament scoring records at 286, 583, and 869, respectively.
"I am very proud of the way we went out and competed this week," said coach
Robbie Fields. "The improvement we saw throughout the tournament was encouraging and very promising for the rest of the season. We have to get better at starting tournaments out, and also closing out rounds when we are playing well."

El Chaib opened with a 75 and posted a 71 in the second round before a 77 in the final round.
"Lara and Rebekka both played solid throughout the week—under-par rounds at Silver Lakes don't come easy," said Fields. "It is important for our team to have those two playing well and they led the way for us this week."
