
Men's Tennis's Historic Season Ends in CUSA Semifinal Loss

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Jax State's men's tennis squad was beaten 4-1 in the semifinals of the CUSA Tournament Saturday against Liberty. The Gamecocks end a historic season with a 18-4 record in 2026.
The match started with Liberty claiming the doubles point. On doubles court one, Timo De Visser and David Krasner were downed by Liberty's David Ekpenyong and Benjamin Sparks. The Flames clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win by Rodrigo Santiago Arraez and Guy Vorwerk against Marko Milosavljevic and Lucius Soller.
On court three, Zach Murphy and Charlie Penman were tied 4-4 against Ernst Gouws and Carl Roothman when the Flames clinched doubles, leaving the match unfinished.
In singles, Arraez put the Flames ahead 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Aman Dahiya. Penman got the Gamecocks on the board with his tiebreaking win on court one. Penman took the opening set 6-2 over Siwanat Auytayakul. Then, in a hard-fought second set, Penman prevailed with a 7-6 (7-3) win to make the match 2-1 in favor of Liberty.
On court five, De Visser dropped the first set 6-3 to Ekpenyong. De Visser responded with a 6-4 second set win to force third set. In the decisive third set, Ekpenyong won 6-3 to make it match point for the Flames.
On court four, Milosavljevic won the first set 6-3 against Roothman. Roothman forced a third set with his 6-1 second set victory. Roothman clinched the win for Liberty thanks to a competitive 7-5 third set win.
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets in the intense semifinal battle. Krasner dropped the first set 6-3 to Sparks on court two. Krasner took the second set 6-2, then in the third the match was all-square at 4-4 when the match was claimed by Liberty. Alin Fatu won the first set 6-2 on court six against Chase Robinson. Robinson won the second 6-0 and was leading 5-2 in the third when the match was abandoned.
