Biography

2014-15: Saw action as JSU’s floor general in 27 games as a junior...led the club in assists with 88 and averaged 3.3 per game...established a new career high in assists with 10 at South Carolina State (12/16), which was the most since Shneka Whaley dished out the same number in January of 1997 against Troy...ranked seventh in the conference in assists and in the top-10 in assists in league games only...scored a season-high eight points at UT Martin (1/17) and pulled down a career-high seven rebounds in the OVC opener at SIU Edwardsville (1/1)...played a career-best 34 minutes in an overtime contest with Murray State (1/10)...credited with three steals twice during the season – Murray State (1/10) and at Kennesaw State (12/13).

2013-14: Played in 27 of the 32 games…missed the season’s first five games due to an injury in the preseason…returned to the floor in JSU’s contest with Central Arkansas…came off the bench to run the point guard position…dished out a career-high six assists in three different games…had six assists versus South Carolina State (12/19) and against Ohio Valley Conference foes UT Martin (12/30) and Eastern Kentucky (2/15)…scored a career-high 10 points twice in OVC play…finished with 10 points in 19 minutes of activity at Murray State (1/25)…eight of the 10 points came at the free throw line…opened the OVC Tournament with 10 points versus SIU Edwardsville (3/5)…pulled down five rebounds on two occasions – vs. Eastern Illinois (1/11) and vs. Tennessee Tech (3/6)…played a season-high 28 minutes in the final regular season contest vs. Belmont (3/1).

2012-13: Saw an abundance of playing time as her freshman season went along, including making her first career start against Reinhardt (12/7)…made the most of her 21 minutes in the start at guard with seven points in the contest…finished with 36 assists as a freshman, including a career-high six dish outs at Lipscomb (12/9)…also pulled down a career-high five rebounds in the game in Nashville and matched it versus Campbell (12/15)…played a season-best 33 minutes at Tennessee Tech (2/9).

High School: Played for Coach Lynn Whitfield at Barlett High School, just outside metro Memphis, Tenn….A four-time All-District and All-Region selection…named to the Second Team All-Region as a freshman and First Team selection from her sophomore season through her senior campaign at BHS…averaged 19 points, six rebounds and dished out five assists per contest as a senior…finished her prep career averaging 17.6 points and five assists…member of the ESPN Hoopgurlz Top 100 list in 2012…Earned a spot on the Memphis Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps Team as sophomore, junior and senior…Helped guide the Panthers of BHS to 84 wins during her four-year stint in the program, including a 26-7 mark as a freshman and posting a 22-6 final record as a senior…Named to the Tennessee East-West All Star Team…An honor student at BHS and was a member of the National Spanish Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American High School Students and was voted the Most Athletic Girl at BHS.

Personal: Full name is Destiny James…born on November 3, 1993 in Jonesboro, Ark. … the daughter of Greg and Janine James…majoring in exercise science… has two sisters – Jasmine and Deidre … Jasmine James is a former standout at the University of Georgia women’s basketball program and now stars in the WNBA for the Phoenix Mercury…also has a relative that participates in track and field at Arkansas State University.
