Emergency Action Plan
Revised 6/23/07
INTRODUCTION
Emergency situations may arise at anytime during athletic events or during practice and preparation for these events. Expedient action must be taken in order to provide the best possible care to the sport participant in the event of life threatening conditions. The development, implementation, and continued review of this Emergency Action Plan will help assure that we are able to render emergency care as necessary.
Preparation to implement this plan must include a thorough understand of each component of the plan by all of those persons who might be involved in an emergency situation. Appropriate coverage of events, availability of emergency equipment and supplies and knowledge of their application, utilization of appropriate emergency medical personnel, and continuing education and training in the area of emergency medicine and planning are primary to the success of the plan.
We strive to avert some potential emergencies through careful pre-participation screening, adequate medical coverage, safe practice and training techniques, proper and well kept equipment, facilities, and safe practice and play areas. However, accidents and injuries are inherent with sports participation, and proper preparation on the part of the sports medicine team should enable each emergency situation to be handled properly.
