Ron Frost

Since taking over the Jacksonville State rifle program prior to the 2004-05 season, Ron Frost has led the Gamecocks to multiple Ohio Valley Conference Championships and consistent appearances in the NCAA National Championship.

Frost is a six-time Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year and has led the Gamecocks to the OVC Championship in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

During that span, JSU has won eight smallbore titles and 11 air rifle crowns since joining the league in 2005. The Gamecocks claimed the 2020 OVC Rifle Championship

Jax State also has claimed nine smallbore individual medalist honors dating back to the 2005 season, while winning eight air rifle individual championships by five different individuals.  JSU’s most recent individual crown was by Michael Dietz with the 2020 OVC Air Rifle Championship.

Under Frost’s leadership and in addition to the nine OVC titles, JSU has produced multiple NRA All-Americans, 70 all-conference selections, ten OVC individual champions and the 2007 NCAA Air Rifle National Champion in Michael Dickinson. In 2009, Brian Carstensen claimed the NCAA Smallbore Championship as an individual.

Frost put together a run of five consecutive years of earning one of the eight coveted spots at the NCAA Rifle Championships and has led the program to 14 NCAA Championship appearances.  Jax State narrowly missed out on extending the streak to six consecutive years in 2016, but the program was represented by two individuals.

In Frost’s first three seasons at JSU, he led the Gamecocks to two of its highest finishes in school history at the NCAA Championships. In 2005 JSU placed first in Air Rifle at the NCAA Championships and finished second overall, just behind his alma mater Army.

A former All-American pistol shooter at the United States Military Academy, Frost was also invited to the Olympic marksmanship trials in 1986.

From 1986-91, Frost served as an Officer assigned to a U.S. Army nuclear weapons facility in Geilenkirchen, Germany. Currently serves as a Program Manager, servicing BAE Systems in Anniston, Ala.
