Chuck Miller played only one year (1954-55) at JacksonvilleStateUniversity, but brought great honor to his alma mater as a prep basketball coach. Miller, who won 680 games during a 32-year career which ranked second all-time in the state, retired in 1988. The determined Miller led his Alexandria and Talladega prep team to 11 state tourney berths. The first stop on a long and winning road began in 1956 at AlexandriaHigh School where he received the pricely sum of $25 per month to coach basketball, baseball, track, and assist in football. He took three of five Alexandria teams to the state tourney. After one year at Winter Garden, Florida, he took the job at Talladega. The Board of Education saluted the future JSU Hall of Fame member by naming the new gymnasium in his honor at the close of a 26-year tenure at Talladega where he posted 10 consecutive winning seasons. Miller graduated from oxfordHigh School in Oxford, Alabama.
