Volleyball Opens CUSA Competition at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. – Jax State volleyball travels to Delaware Friday and Saturday to open CUSA play against the Blue Hens. This season marks Jax State's fourth season in CUSA with Delaware entering their second season in the league.

Jax State wrapped up the non-conference slate with a pair of wins in Alabama's Crimson Classic last week. On Sep. 17, the Gamecocks battled Alabama to a five-set match before falling 3-2 to the Crimson Tide. The Red-and-White then downed Southern 3-0 and Nicholls 3-1 on Sep. 18.

Sophia Schwiekert led the Gamecocks across the three matches with 31 kills on 2.58 kills per set. Claire Evans added 30 kills on 2.50 kills per set. Delaney Moon led Jax State with 30 digs on 2.50 digs per set. Sofia Varela had a team-best 61 assists and 5.08 assists per set. Addison Stone tallied 56 assists and 4.67 assists per set. Stone added 26 digs in the matches. Taya Nordmann had 12 total blocks to lead Jax State.

Nordmann ranks ninth in CUSA in hitting percentage at .331. She has 64 kills, 19 errors, and 136 attempts thus far. Nordmann also ranks fifth in CUSA with an average of 0.91 blocks per set. Nordmann has nine solo blocks and 32 block assists. Varela is 10th in the league with 5.29 assists per set in 45 sets played and 238 total assists.

Schweikert is back for her second season in a Jax State uniform. She played in 72 sets and 18 matches after suffering an injury early in the season. Schweikert has the most production returning with 200 kills last season on 2.78 kills per set. She set a single game high of 18 kills against Portland State on Aug. 29, 2025, then matched it against Kansas City on Sep. 12, 2025. Schweikert is from King of Prussia, Pa., which is only one hour and 19 minutes from Newark, Del.

The two matches versus the Blue Hens mark the first ever meeting between the two programs in volleyball.

Delaware's Kennedi Inman leads CUSA with an average of 9.93 assists per set. She has 397 assists across 40 sets played this season. Offensively, the Blue Hens are led by Anna Logan Gillens who ranks third in CUSA with 3.73 kills per set. Gillens has 149 kills this season.

The road conference matches at Delaware ends 11-straight road matches for the Gamecocks. Jax State returns to Pete Mathews Coliseum Oct. 2 and 3 for a pair of matches against Liberty.
