NEWARK, Del. – Jax State volleyball fell 3-1 to Delaware in the 2026 CUSA opener on the road Friday evening.

The Gamecocks began the match with a 25-19 win in the first set. Both teams shared runs early on before Jax State's Lauren Buchanan and Azavia Thomas put the Gamecocks ahead 16-14 with back-to-back kills. Jax State clinched the opening set win with a 5-0 run capped by a Buchanan kill.

Buchanan and Thomas tied for second on the team with nine kills. The duo trailed Sophia Schweikert who led with 15 kills. Delaney Moon had a team-best 19 digs, while Sofia Varela added 16 digs. Schweikert had nine digs. Varela led the way with 18 assists and Addison Stone tallied 17, respectively.

The Gamecocks had 48 kills, 67 digs, 45 assists, four aces, and three blocks in the match.

The Gamecocks went on a 7-0 run capped by a Thomas kills to take a 15-9 lead at the midway point of the second set. Delaware responded with four-straight points to cut Jax State's lead to two. Later, Claire Evans cut Delaware's lead to 22-21. The Blue Hens ended the set on a 3-1 run to win 25-22.

Delaware took the third set 25-19, then clinched the match in the fourth set with a 25-17 final.

The Gamecocks and Blue Hens square off for the second match of the CUSA slate Saturday at 12 p.m. central, 1 p.m. eastern. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live stats will be available at JaxStateSports.com.
