PLANO, Tex. -- Jacksonville State sophomore punter Richie Rhodes was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player-of-the-Week, the league office announced Sunday.
Rhodes, a native of Alexander City, finished with a 44.8 punting average on four punts, with a long punt of 50 yards. He also had two punts inside the Samford 20-yard line to help JSU to a 37-23 win over Samford on Saturday.
Rhodes is the third Gamecock player to earn SLC Player-of-the-Week honors this season.
Northwestern State's Kevin Magee was named Offensive Player-of-the-Week, while Southwest Texas State's Greg Pitts earned defensive honors.
Jax State returns to Southland action on Saturday by hosting Sam Houston State. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. at Paul Snow Stadium.
