JACKSONVILLE - JSU head coach Jack Crowe knows the importance of Homecoming.
"Homecoming is always a special time," Crowe said. "It's a time that your alumni returns to campus and the football game is one of the many highlights of the weekend."
Throughout it's history, Jacksonville State is 47-7-2 in Homecoming games and the Gamecocks defeated Northwestern State 28-24 in a Homecoming win in 2000. This year's Demons are ranked No. 3 in the latest NCAA Division I-AA football poll.
"Northwestern State is a quality opponent," said Crowe. "They are a lot like McNeese State, maybe a little better. Northwestern has a better quarterback and they've probably got the best runningback in the league.
Crowe had two special guest speak to the football team this week. Former NFL player and Alabama All-American Antonio Langham stopped by practice and spoke to the team on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Crowe invited JSU head baseball coach Jim Case, who played quarterback at Ensley High School, to talk to the team.
"I'm pulling out all the stops," Crowe said. "Obviously, I can't say the right things and these two guys both know how to win football games."
Jacksonville State and Northwestern State kick-off on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Paul Snow Stadium.
