Gamecocks Sweep Georgia State to Earn No. 3 Seed in A-Sun Tournament

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville State junior pitcher Jessie Corn was named first-team All-Atlantic Sun Conference, while reliever Josh Forrest earned All-Freshman honors, the league office announced today.
Corn, a right-hander from Villa Rica, Ga., was one of four starting pitchers on the 2003 All-Atlantic Sun first-team. He was a three-time A-Sun Pitcher-of-the-Week and leads the league in four categories: ERA (2.04), innings pitched (106.2), strikeouts (112) and opponents batting average (.190).
Corn's 2.04 ERA is ranked 26th nationally and his 8-5 record is the most wins for a JSU pitcher since Bill White finished 8-5 during the 2000 season.
Forrest, a native of Heflin, leads the team with six saves and has the second lowest ERA on the staff at 2.52. He has 22 appearances and tossed 35.2 innings while compiling a 3-2 record.
Third-seed Jacksonvlle State begins play in the 2003 A-Sun Baseball Championship on Wednesday with a first-round match-up against No. 4 Belmont at 2 p.m. in DeLand, Fla. JSU, which is making first post-season appearance since the 1998 season, won 2-of-3 vs Belmont earlier this season.
