JSU's Gavin Hallford and Andrew Ridgeway Earns OVC Honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State's Andrew Ridgeway and Gavin Hallford were named Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.
Ridgeway recorded a career-high 11 tackles and also returned a blocked field goal 72 yards for a touchdown in JSU's 26-21 win over No. 18 Tennessee State on Saturday to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors.
With the Gamecocks trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter, the Tigers were attempting a 30-yard field goal, but Jax State blocked the kick and Ridgeway scooped up the ball and raced 72 yards to score his first career touchdown. The Fort Payne, Ala., native also added one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry.
Hallford kicked a pair of field goals and finished with eight points in the win over Tennessee State to earn Special Teams Player of the Week. It marks the sixth time he has won OVC Player of the Week honors during his career.
The Phenix City, Ala., native kicked a career-long 48-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to give Jax State a 17-14 halftime, and then added a 36-yard field goal in the third quarter to extend the Gamecocks' lead.
Hallford now has 311 career points, which ranks him second on the OVC's career scoring list. He is already JSU's career scoring leader and is the OVC's career scoring leader among kickers.
Jacksonville State finished the regular season with an 8-3 overall record and will finish tied for second in the OVC with a 6-2 conference record.
